Vets

Mike Smalley

MIKE SMALLEY - Director

Michael was brought up in a veterinary world. Pre 1963 the Smalley & Blaxland surgery was a downstairs room in his childhood home at Cyprus House. In 1963 the new surgery opened in the ‘yard’ next door, severely impinging on his pedal operated go-kart track.

Undeterred by this veterinary assault to his childhood freedom, the teenage Michael enrolled at the Royal Vet College in 1976 and qualified in 1981.

He worked in a mixed general practice in the Cotswolds for 4½ years, specialising in farm and equine. After a year spent in Surrey, again in a mixed practice,

Michael joined Smalley & Blaxland in 1986 for a temporary six month period & never escaped; becoming a Partner in 1987.

Michael is passionate about his work as a vet and, in his spare time!! passionate about most sports, but especially rugby and cricket. He still manages to play cricket and is currently chairman of both Ash Cricket & Rugby Clubs.

Patricia (Trish) was born to a local farming family and first helped in the Practice at the age of 16. Having qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 1978 she has worked for the Practice ever since and is a member of the BSAVA. Trish has two children, who are both passionate about animals and became a Partner in 1992. Initially a fully mixed vet; then specialising increasingly in all aspects of small animal internal medicine and surgery. Apart from being full time in the Practice Trish finds time to own and exercise her horse, Harry, and is green fingered in her garden. Her interests include cooking and handicrafts and she is on the East Kent Ploughing Match Committee. With first hand knowledge of keeping all domestic pets and most farm animals and with an interest in breeding quality puppies from time to time, Trish is an extremely valued member of the Practice. In Trish’s words ‘my practice life is a balance of highs and lows, but continues to inspire me to work to a high standard; nothing but the best is good enough’.
